World records involving food are amongst the most hotly contested record breaking feats. People from all around the globe are constantly setting new records for doing things bigger, faster, or longer than those before them. We’ve put together this collection of some of the biggest and best pizza-related world records ever! From the largest, to the longest, to the biggest gluten-free pizza these larger than life records are guaranteed to make you hungry!
Largest Pizza: The world record for the largest pizza ever made clocks in at an amazing 26,833 lbs and was 122′ 8″ in diameter. This enormous pie was made in Norwood, South Africa on December 8, 1990.
Most Expensive Pizza: The worlds most expensive gourmet pizza (commercially available) can be found in London and costs a whopping $178. The pizza has a thin, wood-fired crust and is topped with onion puree, white truffle paste, fontina cheese, mozzarella, pancetta, mushrooms, fresh picked wild mizuna lettuce and garnished with freshly saved rare while Italian truffle.
Most Pizza’s Made in 24 Hours: Accomplished by a team in Queensland, Australia this record was broken by making 7,539 pies. The pizzas were then sold to the public at a discounted price so they didn’t go to waste.
Longest Pizza: Created in Tomelloso, Spain on May 31, 2011 the worlds longest pizza measured 3,745 feet and .85 inches! The pizza was cooked in an oven specifically manufactured for the record breaking attempt. Once the pizza was completed it was cut into slices and sold for 1 Euro each. The money that was collected was donated to a local charity.
Most People Tossing Pizza Dough: Appropriately completed in the birthplace of pizza itself (Naples, Italy) it took 278 people, simultaneously tossing pizza dough to break this record on September 16, 2014.
Largest Gluten-Free Pizza: Created with the intention of educating the public and spreading a message to the whole world about the importance of health conscious food choices, the worlds largest gluten-free pizza was 13,580.23 ft². The pie was named ‘Ottavia’ as a homage to the first Roman emperor Octavian Agustus.
Largest Pizza Delivery: Our favorite pizza related world record was set by an organization called Pizzas 4 Patriots who delivered (via DHL) 30,000 pizzas to US Armed Forces at the Kandahar Airfield, Bagram Airbase, and Camp Bastion, Afghanistan on the Fourth of July! The goal was never to set a world record, but to give the service men and women a “slice of home” on Independence Day!
